The Eurocell Skypod is now in stock!

As of the last couple of weeks we now have stock and the new software to manufacture the Eurocell Skypod Roof inhouse.

Let me tell you, this is a really nice solution to Lantern roofs. With its clean lines, small ridge end spoons and single piece, thermally broken ridge , its really provides sellers with a simple and elegant roof that is very quick to install and finish.

It is based on several key fixed elements.

These being:-

  • Fixed 20 degree pitch
  • Specific spoons- either two hip only or two hips and an intermediate rafter
  • Minimal thermally broken single piece ridge
  • Low ring be plate removing the need for gutter

The overall size of the lantern can be altered to suit exact requirements as with previous supplied lanterns.

Fewer components mean that spraying the roof to any colour required is not an issue and relatively cheap to do which is always an important part of any project.

Typically these are glazed with Pilks Activ Blue glass giving a U-Value of just 1.1 making them very thermally efficient.

End of an Era

We have come to the end of January with  a change in staff. 

Darren has been with us for several years now and been a valued employee, making many Conservatory Roofs, always hard working and diligent and don’t recall him every being off sick. He has gone back to fitting and we wish him the best. 

And into the new- Welcome to Ihor, it will be a steep learning curve getting him up to speed on the K2 and Eurocell Roof systems, and on the individual customer requirements.  We are sure he will cope fine so look forward to a new face making and delivering your Roofs!

Now the Christmas rush is out the way we shall be aiming to have one or two more posts  informing customer of new products and also existing products that they may not yet be aware of so keep an eye out for the next post.

Roof maker wanted

Due to Darren moving on to a new job at the end of the month we are looking to take on a new Fabricator.

All necessary training will be given regarding both roof systems.

Not quite the Riviera we were hoping for…..

As you can see we suffered from the awful floods on Thursday 5th December 2013. This shot was taken out of the office window shortly before it peaked in height at a little over a foot high at our factory door. The road between our premises and those pictured over the road dips down a good couple feet so in the middle we were looking at around three feet of water.

Fortunately I was working late and so saw the water first come onto the estate and within 10-15 minutes it was at this height. Though out of town where it breached the banks all over the place and caused masses of damage, we are in fact very close to the Haven river itself. The river bank had some damage to it, and at this weakened point the water just burst through and flooded this whole area.

Below are some images of the flooding within  the building- with the torrent of water outside the doors, I couldn’t leave so it was a case of lift computer equipment, paperwork and polycarbonate up and anything else I could so as to minimise the damage and just carry on working

One customers polycarbonate lifted up on bins as it was going out the following morning. Fortunately that was the only polycarbonate job we had in stock at the time.

 The glass on the stillage was lifted up as high as it could go so as to not sit in water.

Not so sure the spare chopsaw can be relied on in future, or the wallpaper stripper next to it, or the welder, or the cut-off saw , or the compressor, or…..well, you get the picture.

An image of the build floor starting to dry out. This now looks like a muddy sand dune. It’s warped and all over the place and is one of the first jobs back in the new year.

On balance we were incredibly lucky to suffer as little damage as we did. All our conservatory roofs that were due for delivery the following morning made it out without problem. None of the Roofs on order were delayed in anyway, so we made sure that none of our customers suffered any consequences of Riviera Roofs being flooded.

The big clean up comes in January, we have been so busy in the run up to the Christmas break that we have had a few good sweep rounds, tidied up the essentials and carried on getting the roofs out the door.

Having heard and seen all sorts of issues that have arisen as a result of the flooding locally and how it has affected a lot of people I consider Riviera to have been very lucky in suffering only minimal damage. My thoughts go out those who’s homes have been affected by the flooding. It must be incredibly tough for them.

On a final note, I really hope for everyone locally that this is the last flooding we see round here for a long time!

We have finally done it!!! New Van

We have been putting it off for as long as possible but have bitten the bullet and finally got a new van for Riviera.

The old ‘beast’ as we referred to it was an Iveco Daily extra long wheel base and extra high top, which was to be honest- knackered. We kept it going to as long as we could as it started and ran fine everyday, never letting us down.  But we got the nagging feeling that its demise was imminent so thought it best to buy a new van before we got caught out.

As it lay waiting for its next owner,its current issues include,but not limited to:-

Noisey whirring noise at the front; holes in exhaust; front tyre about knackered; rear tyres low; radio removed; side door stuck; back doors worn to a point where they rattle and struggle to close; a mixture of Aluminium bar, super glue and screws holding the locking mechanism together; clonking on the back end; no heating; massive hole in one rear wheel arch and other wheel arch is pretty much rotten through.

There are other faults I am sure, but it has served us well over the years but time has come to change.

We have gone for the same but newer 2008 Iveco Daily LWB twin wheel rear axle, but normal height , and here it is :-

It has been a tough time getting it on the road as what we thought was wheel bearings, turned out to be Diff, which ended up being worse.

But, its sorted and a month after getting it, its finally in service delivering our K2 and Eurocell Conservatory roofs all over Lincolnshire and the surrounding counties.

 

One great bonus that came with the van is the rear loading ramp :-

As you can see this ramp is perfect for the transportation of glass units and long sections of Conservatory roofs, as the vans are high off the ground it makes life a lot easier. Fully racked down one side we can 3/4 roofs in at a push, still with the ramp folded up at the back. Up to 6m lengths can be loaded without it hanging out the back with the doors half open.

 

 

So your next delivery will be in the new ‘beast’ -safer unloading, less likely to break down (we hope!!) and much much quieter!
